"THE TALE OF THE POX KID" Theatre Promotional Material Restoration Poster

The Tale of the Pox Kid reimagines the lost theatrical work 痘儿传, a 1920s play once performed in the transitional era between feudal superstition and modern medicine. The poster pays homage to early Republican visual aesthetics — distressed paper, muted pigments, and typographic arrangements drawn from vintage playbills — while reinterpreting the social anxieties surrounding illness, morality, and redemption.

This recreation reflects on how disease narratives once shaped collective identity, fear, and empathy. Through deliberate aging and visual erosion, the design embodies the fragility of memory itself — what remains, and what fades, when cultural artefacts are retold through time.
