This symposium brings together four research-based works developed through the Investigating Through Iteration workshop series, each exploring how tools, process and misdirection reshape the act of making. Rather than presenting final outcomes, these projects focus on traces, detours, errors, and unfinished thinking — the parts of research usually hidden or edited out.
The contributors approach their tools as agents rather than instruments: something that resists, interrupts, participates or misbehaves. Through poetic translation, material misuse, sensory recording and behavioural reflection, the symposium examines what happens when design is treated not as a method of solving, but a method of remaining in the question.
